Republic Services Inc., Phoenix, was named to both the 2017 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) world and North America indices for the second consecutive year. Republic is the sole recycling and solid waste collection provider included in the 2017 DJSI indices, the company says. The rankings highlight Republic's corporate governance, environmental, social and financial sustainability.

"Inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index is truly an honor, and it serves as a benchmark to measure the progress we are making toward our sustainability goals," says Donald W. Slager, president and CEO. "We are privileged to serve more than 14 million customers across the country every day, creating effortless experiences that support their evolving needs and honoring their commitments to improve their communities. We are deeply committed to our leadership role in improving our relationship with the environment and society while delivering financial performance to our shareholders."

Republic received a top score in the risk and crisis management, materiality (stakeholder engagement), human capital development and talent attraction and retention categories—all factors that, the company says, enhance its ability to deliver value over the long term.

Through its Blue Planet sustainability platform, Republic says its defining its approach to and steadily building on corporate social responsibility through the practices and programs outlined in its latest sustainability report, which can be viewed at RepublicServices.com/Sustainability.
