Casella buys Daley & Sons Trucking

The family-run Massachusetts hauling company will remain under local management.

Casella Waste Systems Inc., Rutland, Vermont, recently bought Daley & Sons Trucking, Lee, Massachusetts, according to legal documents. Daley & Sons co-owner Bob Daley wrote to his approximately 3,500 residential and business patrons that the sale won’t affect their service, stating the family-run firm his father, Nelson Daley Sr., formed in 1971 will remain under local management.

“Our entire staff [of 24] is remaining, including myself, my dad and my son,” says Daley. “This industry is what we know and love, and we plan on being with Casella for many years to come.”

Daley, who will now serve as operations manager for the newest Casella subsidiary, says personal reasons and the changing landscape of waste management prompted him to sell to a larger, regional waste-hauling firm.

“Recycling is a major factor for selling, as the market is dominated by the world,” he said in a Berkshire Eagle interview. “It costs me 30 percent more to recycle than to get rid of the trash.”
