Paper & Plastics Recycling conference

The Paper & Plastics Recycling Conference was introduced by the Recycling Today Media Group, Valley View, Ohio, in 2000. Since, it has created a space where industry professionals can delve into sessions about recyclable commodities, demand trends and technology innovations in processing recyclables.

The three-day event begins Wednesday, Oct. 11, with a workshop highlighting methods to get the most value from used beverage containers (UBCs). Speakers for the session include Pat Madison, general manager at Universal Scrap Metals (USM), Chicago. Other sessions cover municipal contracts and a discussion of the industry’s future.

The Paper Stock Industries (PSI) Chapter of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), Washington, holds a session Thursday, Oct. 12, to update attendees on allowable moisture levels in recovered paper bales. Attendees also can sit in on sessions featuring panels of plastics mill buyers and small business owners within the industry.

Attendees can hear the latest updates on China’s National Sword campaign Friday, Oct. 13. Speakers Steve Wong of Fukutomi Co. Ltd., Hong Kong, and Billy Johnson of ISRI discuss how China’s crackdown on contamination has affected the industry. The final session addresses the growing interest in e-commerce and how it affects old corrugated cardboard (OCC) recycling.
