Aimed at a rapidly evolving segment of the waste-to-energy market, the SR900F is a new high-speed, single-rotor shredder from Wilsonville, Oregon-based SSI Shredding Systems Inc.’s Uni-Shear line. Engineered to produce refuse-derived fuel (RDF), the shredder creates 1-inch-minus materials, for which the company has seen a growing demand. Key features of the shredder include:

  • a higher rotor speed of more than twice its predecessor shredder model’s speed to allow for more aggressive shredding of light materials
  • a second set of anvils to double cutting opportunities and enhance performance with light, high-volume material
  • broader, flatter cutters to increase the cutting surface while allowing for a tighter shear gap

Bridgestone recycled-content M870 truck tire

Supporting the use of 70 percent recycled and renewable materials, the M870 truck tire from Bridgestone Americas Inc., Nashville, Tennessee, is the first commercially available tire in industry history to reach this threshold of sustainable materials, according to the company. Bridgestone debuted a demonstration commercial tire at WasteExpo and is testing a limited run of tires on waste fleets. Key features include:

  • a sustainable materials mix of 37 percent renewable and 33 percent recyclable material
  • a design based on the Bridgestone M870 high-scrub, all-position radial waste and recycling tire designed for urban collection fleets
  • a mass balance approach using circular synthetic rubber, such as butadiene and halobutyl rubber, circular carbon black and natural rubber

Terex Ecotec windrow turners

Designed to optimize large-scale composting operations, the TCT 630 and TCE 580 are new windrow turners from United Kingdom-based size reduction and screening equipment maker Terex Ecotec, which has a U.S. office in Newton, New Hampshire. Purpose-built to streamline the process of turning windrow piles, the turners promise to improve aeration and decomposition to accelerate the composting process. Key features include:

  • a drum size of 20.7 feet by 25 inches and a throughput of 6,600 cubic yards per hour
  • a rotor designed to lift, aerate and evenly mix windrows without excessive shredding of contaminants
