Smith & Loveless Inc. Optiflow 270 Baffle System

The Optiflow 270 Baffle System from Smith & Loveless Inc. (S&L), Lanexa, Kansas, is a retrofit solution geared toward enhancing 270-degree vortex grit removal systems in wastewater treatment machinery. The system, which is intended for use with new and existing Pista 270 chambers and select non-S&L vortex systems, improves removal efficiencies to 95 percent for particles down to 150 microns. Key features include:

  • capacities up to 100 MGD, or million gallons per day
  • maximized grit removal without the need to make major infrastructure modifications
  • a total of three baffle elements, including Optiflow 270 LFB, B and STF, aimed at optimizing vortex flow patterns

Hydrotex BIO-XPL hydraulic fluid

A study conducted by Oregon-based Pride Disposal Co. reports improvements in hydraulic system efficiency using biosynthetic hydraulic fluid, BIO-XPL, produced by Farmers Branch, Texas-based Hydrotex. Across two testing periods in warm and cold temperature conditions (September to November 2024 and January to March 2025, respectively), BIO-XPL yielded superior operating temperature reductions, according to the study. In warm weather conditions, temperatures were reduced by 13.4 F, and in cold weather conditions, temperatures were reduced by 20.6 F. Key features include:

  • a formulation of more than 85 percent renewable, biodegradable and nontoxic content
  • a viscosity index of greater than 190
  • a minus 20 to 160 F fluid temperature operating range

Aggregates Equipment Inc. Freedom disc screen

Designed to manage complex material streams, the Freedom disc screen product line by Leola, Pennsylvania-based Aggregates Equipment Inc. contains tools intended to sort construction and demolition materials, municipal solid waste, aggregates and more. The disc screens possess anticlogging and antiwrapping capabilities, allowing for continued operation even with materials that could clog or bind. Key features include:

  • a variety of sizes, including a range of 5 feet by 12 feet to 5 feet by 30 feet
  • a durable design composed of wear-resistant Hardox steel discs
  • the ability to customize in multiple separations per deck or in a cascade arrangement
