Hyva, a global leader in dump body tipping and hydraulic lift solutions, has named industry veteran Chris Zuniga as head of sales for its recently created North American Recycling Business Unit. Zuniga will focus on Hyva’s extensive hook-lift product line and introduce U.S. waste haulers to Hyva’s soon-to-be released family of small rear loaders.
Zuniga has more than 25 years of experience in global refuse, vocational and commercial vehicle sales and distribution. He previously led Oshkosh’s commercial segment sales efforts for all markets outside of the U.S. and Canada. Zuniga will handle developing marketing, sales and distribution for Hyva’s newly created Recycling Business Unit.
“I am excited to be part of such a truly global team and honored to be given the opportunity to lead sales and distribution development in North American,” Zuniga says. “I look forward to the opportunity to leverage Hyva’s global footprint and product offering to meet the needs of refuse and container-handling customers across North America.”
Hyva says the newly formed Recycling Business Unit is part of a new strategy to separate its business units into three distinct entities: Components, Cranes and Recycling. Each will have its own leadership and infrastructure, allowing for more focus and accountability. According to Hyva, its high focus will be on product, service and customer support.
“Customer service and support is a key to our business focus and an area where we believe Hyva can have an immediate positive impact. By supplying superior products combined with a more hands-on approach toward customers, we believe we can compete in this market,” says Zuniga. “We’re a relatively new name in North American waste and container handling segments, but we’ve been turning heads and exceeding expectations for over 40 years in other parts of the world.”
According to Hyva, which is headquartered in The Netherlands, the focus is on expanding its industry-leading family of hook lifts into U.S. fleets with the addition of a new line of 16-yard and under-CDL small rear loaders that will hit the market in late 2024.
“There has been tremendous interest in our small rear-load body as a shortage of CDL drivers continues to hamper fleet owners,” Zuniga says. “Our simple-to-operate rear loaders are perfect for those routes where access is limited, like gated communities or large multifamily housing developments. We’re also seeing a growing demand for hook-lift trucks as more and more fleets are moving away from cable hoists as safety and efficiency become increasingly important to our customer’s bottom line.”
Zuniga is working to grow the Hyva dealer network in conjunction with the launch of its rear-loader offering later this year.
