Meridian adds to portfolio in Virginia

Meridian Waste Virginia LLC, an operating unit of Charlotte, North Carolina-based Meridian Waste, has acquired assets of Richardson Waste Management of Woodlawn, Virginia. The acquisition was completed Feb. 1 and the newly acquired assets will tuck into Meridian's existing operations in Virginia and North Carolina.

“The acquisition expands Meridian Waste’s roll-off collection operations bridging current operations between Christiansburg, Virginia, and Sandy Ridge, North Carolina,” the company says.

As part of the transaction, Meridian Waste will take over operations at Richardson Waste’s hauling facility in Woodlawn, where existing Richardson Waste employees will continue serving the firm’s roll-off customers while expanding into Meridian Waste’s additional lines of business, including frontload and residential collections.

Other benefits of the acquisition, according to Meridian, is that it allows for greater internalization of waste at the company’s new Gate City Transfer Station located in Greensboro, North Carolina, which is slated to open the first quarter of 2026 while densifying roll-off collection routes in southwest Virginia into north central North Carolina.

The latest transaction marks Meridian Waste’s 36th acquisition since the company transitioned to private ownership under Florida-based Warren Equity Partners in April 2018.
