AD Plant Opens in UK

The U.K-based firm Agrivert has officially opened a £10 million anaerobic digestion facility near Benson, U.K. The company says that the facility, which was commissioned in late January 2013, is currently operating at 75 percent of capacity.

When fully operational, the facility will be able to process up to 45,000 metric tons of waste per year and generate enough electricity to power 4,000 households and provide bio-fertilizer for 2,500 acres of farmland.

Oxfordshire County Council, where the AD facility is operating, has a 20-year waste contract with Agrivert.

Alexander Maddan, CEO of Agrivert, says, “The plant will help increase national recycling rates and reduce the volume of material going to landfills, while reducing the financial burden on the taxpayer.

“The plant will give the local economy and the agricultural sector a valuable boost during a difficult economic period.”
There is also a composting facility at the site.
