Cullman County, Alabama, has filed a complaint against three waste haulers claiming they are providing their services illegally to residents, a report by the Cullman Times says. The names of the three companies could not be publicly identified due to the pending litigation.
Chad Floyd, Cullman County Attorney, was authorized by the county commission to file the complaint the week of Dec. 10. The report says the county passed a resolution some years ago stating that the commission is the sole provider of solid waste collection services within Cullman County.
Floyd claims in the report that two of the companies are placing roll-off containers and dumpsters at construction sites while the third is running a residential collection route near the Marshall County line. He says in the report that he has met with the three companies’ management and was told they would immediately cease operations, but Floyd says in the report that there was still no change to their operations for a few months following the meeting.
Cullman County Sanitation Department recently started its own roll-off and dumpster rental service. The county projects more than $84,000 in revenue in fiscal year 2018 from the operations. Two hundred tons of waste are dumped at the local landfill, owned by Cullman Environmental Inc. of Cullman, Alabama, per day.
