The City of Brazoria, Texas, located approximately 55 miles southwest of Houston, currently is receiving sealed bids from potential buyers of two parcels of land that have previously served as landfills.
One tract of land measures about 8.2 acres while the other is only about 0.75 acres.
According to a bid notice posted by the city, those bidding must submit a $500 deposit as earnest money and can send the bid to the city manager of Brazoria by April 24.
“The sale of the property shall be awarded, at the discretion of the city council, to the bidder submitting a bid in accordance with the terms outlined herein, and providing the best value to the city,” the bid notice reads in part.
Council says any resulting sale will be on an “as is” condition basis, “with no warranty or representation as to suitability for any particular use.”
Also in the bid language, the city writes, “The buyer acknowledges that the property was formerly a landfill or municipal solid waste site, and that development of the site will require additional permitting from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.”
The bid notice continues, “The buyer will assume all responsibility or liability for environmental conditions affecting the property, or any clean up or remediation that may be required by law.”
