Centre County, Pennsylvania, honors recyclers

Local businesses and groups receive Emerald Award.

The Centre (Pennsylvania) Daily Times reports that 55 Centre County businesses, schools and organizations received the Emerald Award at a Green Business Partnership Luncheon in April 2016. 

The program was coordinated by the Centre County Recycling & Refuse Authority, the Centre Region Council of Governments and the Borough of State College. 

The article cites the efforts of the following winners: 

  • Coca-Cola’s (http://www.coca-colacompany.com/) Milesburg, Pennsylvania, plant, for recycling 100 percent of eligible materials; 
  • Habitat for Humanity of Greater Centre County ReStore (https://www.habitatgcc.org/restore), for diverting an average of 18,500 pounds of reusable goods from landfills each month;
  • Harrison’s Wine Grill and Catering (http://www.harrisonsmenu.com/), for contributing 1,000 pounds of organic waste to the local composting initiative every month; 
  • KB Offset Printing Inc. (http://www.kboffset.com/), for saving $300 per month by reusing manufacturing consumables; and
  • Weis Markets (https://www.weismarkets.com/), for exceeding its goal of a reduced carbon footprint, achieving 22.1 percent.
