Clean Earth acquires EWS Alabama

Clean Earth Inc.,  headquartered in Hatboro, Pennsylvania, has acquired EWS Alabama Inc., headquartered in Glencoe, Alabama. The acquisition marks Clean Earth’s 16th fixed-based facility in the United States, and fourth RCRA Part B hazardous waste facility.

The addition of EWS to Clean Earth’s portfolio expands the company’s waste streams to include various medical wastes, university waste and the ability to recycle new forms of non-hazardous wastes.

Clean Earth focuses a significant portion of its business on specialty wastes.

EWS’s business uses advanced technologies to provide a wide range of hazardous and non-hazardous waste management services. EWS serves about 250 customers in 11 states from its 65,000-square-foot, fully permitted hazardous waste RCRA Part B facility.

In a release announcing the acquisition, Chris Dods, president and CEO of Clean Earth, says, "Since 1996, EWS has been a leader in providing waste management services. Our combined geographic footprint will open up new markets for Clean Earth, expanding our customer base and enhancing our growth prospects. In addition, EWS's regulatory permits and extensive processing capabilities will enable us to recycle carbon black, utilize fuel blending, process medical waste and recycle new forms of non-hazardous waste, opening up new opportunities to service our existing regional customers as well as acquire new national customers."

The deal for EWS follows Clean Earth’s acquisition in May of Phoenix Soil, a soil treatment and recycling facility, located in Plainville Connecticut.

Clean Earth estimates that it handles nearly four million tons of material per year. Additionally, the company points out that 98 percent of the material it processes at its facilities is recycled.
