Lori ScozzafavaThe United States Composting Council (USCC) has appointed Lori Scozzafava its new executive director. Scozzafava has been involved in solid waste management for more than 25 years.
“Lori’s extensive industry and association management experience will help the USCC and its membership reach their goals and rise to a new level,” says Lorrie Loder, president of the USCC. Scozzafava replaces former USCC Executive Director Michael Virga. “We truly appreciate all of Mike’s contributions and efforts at the USCC, and we wish him the best of luck,” Loder adds.
Scozzafava was deputy executive director of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) from 2004 through 2012 and has experience managing budgets, government affairs, education and annual conference activities. During her tenure she helped SWANA increase membership and revenue.
Prior to that position Scozzafava was SWANA’s director of technical programs and the Maryland Department of the Environment’s recycling services division manager.
“This is a great opportunity to bring my association expertise and understanding of the industry to the US Composting Council,” says Scozzafava. “The timing is perfect to position organics management into national prominence as a major contributor to achieving recycling goals and environmental sustainability.”
Frank Franciosi, USCC Immediate past president, adds, “Lori Scozzafava brings a wealth of experience and knowledge, along with the kind of passion we need to ensure our industry is in the best position possible to compete in today’s economic and environmental challenges.”
Scozzafava will be based in the USCC headquarters in Bethesda, Md.
