CP Group and Cisek Inspections have formed a strategic alliance to develop and deploy new X-ray scanning and automated extraction systems for material recovery facilities (MRFs).
Under the agreement, the companies will integrate the Cisek Inspections X-ray detection and artificial intelligence (AI) identification technology with CP Group’s extraction equipment and control systems. CP Group says this combination targets and removes non-program materials from waste streams before they cause equipment damage or safety incidents.
San Diego-based CP Group says it is currently working with early adopters to finalize system configurations with initial installations planned for early 2026.
“We are very excited to partner with Cisek Inspections to develop such a relevant solution to the industry’s needs,” says Richard Coupland, senior vice president of strategy and growth at CP Group. “We know that the ideal operational solution needs to maintain system uptime and remove targeted material without slowing or stopping the conveyor, which is where the development expertise at CPG will really shine.”
The companies aim to address two operational challenges facing MRFs with this technology, the first being mechanical damage from nonprogram contaminants from car parts, construction debris, chains, cables and rigid materials that can tear conveyor belts and damage sorting equipment.
Second, CP Group says the technology enables a solution to address fire risks from lithium-ion batteries.
Operators will be able to use this technology to configure which materials they want to target for removal, based on their specific operational risks and equipment vulnerabilities in their local MRF stream.
“We were looking for the right partner to enter the waste industry and CP Group was the clear choice. Their combination of technical expertise and customer focus fit perfectly with our approach at Cisek Inspections,” Fond du Lac, Wisconsin-based Cisek Inspections CEO Richard Cisek says. “We look forward to pairing our deep knowledge in X-ray with CPG’s long-term expertise in providing solutions to MRFs around the world.”
