CP Group used a principled approach to upgrade a MRF for Cal-Waste combining an innovative layout design, our latest screening technology and NIR Optical separation.

Engineered Solution for Cal-Waste
The results of this upgrade were an increase in processing capacity of 173% (30 TPH) while only increasing their manual sorting headcount by 29%.
Primary Auger Screen
Positioned prior to the pre-sort conveyor, this mechanical screen increases the overall processing capacity and performance of the MRF by fractioning the material stream.
Unders Fraction
The 8-inch hole sizing on the primary auger screen reduces the volume of material received by the pre-sort conveyor by 50 percent.
Overs Fraction
The remaining 8-inch (or larger) materials are efficiently presented to the pre-sort station resulting in more efficient manual sorting while reducing the overall system headcount.
Secondary Auger Screen
This mechanical screen has a 5-inch hole opening that removes single-serve containers from larger fiber materials. This results in a cleaner fiber end-product.
CP Glass Breaker Screen
The CP Glass Breaker Screen uses cast-chromium alloys discs for minimal wear and tear while providing high removal of glass and fines.

OCC Quality Control
The OCCScreen utilizes steel discs for low maintenance, long wear life and efficient removal of OCC.
Liberate 2D from 3D
Both the CPScreen and the CP Anti-Wrap Screen utilize patented disc designs to maximize fiber capture rates and end-product quality.
Liberate for Purity
By agitating materials with our high amplitude disc screens, glass, dirt and fines are liberated from the commodities and captured by the third cut on the CP Screen.

Unmatched Disc Longevity
CPScreen discs operate up to two years and CP Anti-Wrap Screen discs operate up to three years before requiring replacement and have minimal maintenance.

Separate with Optical Sorting
Previous manual sorting requirements on both the fiber and container commodities are now automated with five optical sorters.
Three MSS CIRRUS FiberMax
These high-volume optical sorters have belt speeds processing at 1,000 feet per minute with the capability of 1,000 picks per minute, the fastest in the industry.
Separating Commodities
The FiberMax optical sorters help Cal-Waste achieve their fiber purity goals while maximizing throughput and minimizing manual sorting headcount.

Two MSS CIRRUS PlasticMax
Optical sorting to recover PET, HDPE and mixed plastics with minimal manual sorting.
Plastic Separation
The MSS PlasticMax utilizes NIR technology to separate various grades of plastic containers.

CP Lights Out
This air drum separator for glass processing carries clean material to an automated glass self-load out system.

The Result
System performance testing resulted with a system availability of 95% and exceeded the customer’s end product purity requirements.

Cal-Waste Upgrade
Because of new technology, automation, and innovative design the facility is now producing high-quality recyclables that are exceeding the market requirements.
