The Cleveland (Ohio) Plain Dealer reports that Cuyahoga County recycled more than 35 percent of its residential waste in 2015, according to a report by the county’s Solid Waste District. This exceeds the state’s goal by 10 percent.
The report found that communities recycled nearly 246,000 tons of material in 2015. This rate has increased steadily since 2001, when the rate was 18 percent, the article says.
Diane Bickett, executive director for the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District, says work still needs to be done to educate residents about recycling and to increase participation in county recycling, the newspaper reports.
“We’ve set out to reduce that confusion by creating consistent messaging about how to recycle properly,” Bickett says in the article. Part of this effort includes Recycle More, Recycle Better, a public education campaign that began in April.
