DoD to Auction Off Gasification Equipment

The Department of Defense will auction off a waste gasification system, manufactured by Pyrogenesis, that is located at Hurlburt Field, Fla. Most recently used by the U.S. Air Force Special (USAF) Operations Command as part of a first-of-its-kind research and development project to manage waste and convert trash into energy, The equipment uses a plasma gasification system to convert hazardous and nonhazardous solids, liquids and gases—up to 10.5 metric tons per day—into vitrified slag including metals and silicates that can be used in construction materials, as well as gas that can be converted into energy. On average, the USAF diverted 8.3 tons of trash a day from going into the landfill, reduced gas emissions by more than 83,000 tons per year and eliminated toxic materials while producing energy.

According to the DoD’s exclusive sales agent, Government Liquidation (www.govliquidation.com), the equipment is no longer needed by the Air Force. The transportable machine that can be easily disassembled, moved and reassembled anywhere. The starting bid for the gasification equipment is $150.

The waste gasification system will officially go up for public online auction starting April 2 at 12am ET and close on April 4 at 8pm.
