The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) announced Jan. 19 that it has extended the written comment period for the proposed commercial waste zones rule from Jan. 26 to Feb. 9. The rule, once implemented, will establish requirements for carters operating in the city’s commercial waste zones.
DSNY proposed rules in December 2020 regarding customer service and operation requirements for awardees under the program.
The DSNY originally released its commercial waste zone plan in November 2018, citing safety, environmental, and nuisance concerns as the impetus for reducing the number of waste service providers in the city.
Interested parties can review the comments made online to the proposed rules. Copies of all comments submitted online, copies of all written comments, and a summary of oral comments concerning the proposed rule will be made available to the public on DSNY’s website.
DSNY also announced it will hold a public hearing on Jan. 26 on the proposed rule via an online meeting.
