The Daily News of Genesee, Wyoming and Orleans counties in New York state, reports that state Sen. Rob Ortt is sponsoring a free electronics drop-off event for residents of Orleans and Monroe counties, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
A portion of the event’s proceeds will be donated to Brockport High School for the class of 2018. The event will not accept larger appliances, such as refrigerators and air conditioners, or household hazardous waste, the article says.
Additionally, the Daily News says state Sen. Patrick M. Gallivan is encouraging municipalities to apply for the $3 million Environmental Protection Fund grant to assist with the cost of collecting and recycling e-scrap. This is a program administered through the state Department of Environmental Conservation’s Household Hazardous Waste Assistance Program. Applications will be accepted from Oct. 3 to 31, 2016, the article says.
“Keeping potential hazardous electronic waste out of our landfills is important, but collecting and recycling the material is a challenge for many communities,” Gallivan says in a press release. “These funds will help reduce the burden on local governments and property taxpayers.”
