Several fire departments fought a fire at Republic Services’ Illiana Crown Point Transfer Station in Crown Point, Indiana, in the early morning of Nov. 8.
The Crown Point Fire Rescue tells The Times of Northwest Indiana there were no injuries or hazards to nearby residents.
“Thank you to the brave men and women of the St. John Fire Department and Tri-Creek Ambulance Service for providing coverage to our city while we battle this blaze,” the department says.

Fire departments on scene included Merrillville, Lake Hills and Cedar Lake. The various departments reportedly provided equipment and personnel support, The Times reports.
“We’re lucky to have our mutual aid partners in The Region,” the Crown Point department says.
The Times reports that an investigation into the cause is currently underway.
Republic Services provided the following statement to Waste Today:
"At this time, the cause of the fire is still under investigation. We are thankful that our employees were unharmed and for the Crown Point Fire & Rescue’s rapid response in extinguishing the fire."
