Forums focus on food scrap techniques

Programming tied to WasteExpo in New Orleans will delve into food scrap collection and handling.

The 2023 WasteExpo event in May in New Orleans will include the eighth edition of the Food Recovery Forum, which is described by its organizers as four days “of educational and technical sessions on solutions for food waste prevention, reduction and recovery throughout the supply chain.”

Taking place May 1-4 at the Ernest N. Memorial Convention Center in New Orleans, topics to be covered include presentations at on “successful initiatives and model programs to reduce food waste and rescue edible food to address food insecurity.”

The forum coincides with the 11th edition of the Organics Recycling Conference at WasteExpo. That set of programming “focuses on how food scraps and other organics can be recovered for beneficial use including biogas for renewable energy, biofuels, GHG reduction, compost for healthy soils, food production and more,” according to WasteExpo organizer Waste360.

Companies providing presenters or panelists on the organics and food scrap program include Massachusetts-based Vanguard Renewables; Phoenix-based Sprouts Farmers Market; Colorado-based Verdant Technologies; California-based Athens Services; New Jersey-based Bayshore Recycling; Canada-based AIM Environmental Group Inc.; California-based Go2Zero Strategies; and New York-based Closed Loop Partners.

Equipment and technology providers who are part of the program include global energy conversion technology provider Hitachi Zosen Inova; Oregon-based Bulk Handling Systems (BHS); Canada-based Machinex Technologies Inc.; North Carolina-based EcoSafe Zero Waste; Wisconsin-based BIOFerm Energy Systems; California-based Sierra Energy; and Wisconsin-based InSinkErator.

Additional panelists and speakers have been recruited from not-for-profit groups, universities and government agencies, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

Delegates who register for the Food Recovery Forum will receive free access to the Organics Recycling Conference and the Organics Pavilion in the WasteExpo Exhibit Hall, Waste360 says.
