Greengate Biogas, a Dublin-based developer of biomethane projects in Ireland, has appointed Charles Kane as its newest CEO, effective Dec. 1.

Kane brings more than a decade of senior leadership experience in anaerobic digestion and biomethane development. He has experience in delivering anaerobic digestion portfolios, managing funder relationships and implementing industry standards.

Prior to joining Greengate Biogas, Kane served as sustainability director at U.K.-based Ixora Energy Ltd./Engie, where he played a central role in developing 11 anaerobic digestion and biomethane facilities. He was responsible for sustainability strategy, regulatory compliance, International Sustainability and Carbon certification, feedstock strategy, digestate management and energy offtake arrangements while leading initiatives in CO2 capture, gas blending and process optimization.

Kane holds a master’s degree in business administration and a bachelor’s degree in agriculture. He will lead the company’s senior management team and be responsible for its strategic governance and delivery of Greengate Biogas’ biomethane development program across Ireland.

“I am delighted to join Greengate Biogas at a critical stage for the company and for Ireland’s energy transition,” Kane says. “Biomethane has a clear role to play in decarbonizing Ireland’s gas network while supporting farmers and rural communities. I look forward to working with the team and our partners to deliver ‘best-in-class’ projects that create long-term value and real climate impact.”
