The Greater Greenville Sanitation District (GGSD), Greenville, South Carolina, has honored Terry Turner with its Community Stewardship Award for 2016.
Turner is the president of Welcome Tanglewood and the Carolina Crimewatch and Community Action Group. GGSD says she has worked with Carolina High School and Academy students to help raise awareness on minimizing waste.
The GGSD Stewardship Award recognizes individuals, communities, businesses and nonprofit organizations in the GGSD service district that provide leadership in environmental protection and practice in the areas of waste reduction, recycling and litter prevention.
Chuck LaGrange, GGSD public information officer, says, “Terry and her team have done an outstanding job of bringing these communities together around common issues and concerns, especially those related to the White Horse Road corridor. In addition, her efforts to engage local schools such as environmental studies and journalism students at Carolina High to help raise awareness about waste minimization, and her resource conservation is an exemplary example of community activism and volunteerism.”
The award, which also included a community clean-up kit valued at $500, was presented by LaGrange and District 25 Councilman Ennis Fant.
