Hamilton Waste & Recycling Ltd. (HWR), headquartered in Scotland, has acquired Northern Recycling Solutions, according to an Oct. 10 LinkedIn post by Ewan Calder, owner of Northern Recycling Solutions.
Established in 2008 by Calder and his sister Katherine Mount, Northern Recycling Solutions has operated as a family-owned business for 19 years. The company provides waste collection, hazardous waste management and cleaning services in the public sector and construction industry, among others, to residents in the north of Scotland.
According to Calder, the owners of HWR will retain the current team with no anticipated changes to contacts for local customers.
HWR was acquired by parent company Biffa in 2023. The company has processed an estimated 78.9 million metric tons of material, diverting 99 percent of waste from landfills, according to its website. The acquisition is expected to provide wider reach for waste services, security of disposal routes and financial stability for further growth and investment.
“It has been an honor to serve you, our customers, build lasting relationships and contribute to the Highland community,” Calder says.
“We want to express our deepest gratitude to all our loyal customers who have supported us throughout this journey. A special thank you to our amazing team — past and present — whose hard work, passion and commitment have been the backbone of our success. We couldn’t have reached this milestone without you. … Thank you for being part of our story. Katie and I will stay on and will be making contact with individual customers in due course. We are excited and proud to continue growing Northern Recycling Solutions as we embark on our next chapter.”
