Irving, Texas-based Heidelberg Materials North America has announced that its recently acquired subsidiary, Giant Resource Recovery (GRR), will rebrand to Heidelberg Materials Giant Resource Recovery, effective immediately.
Heidelberg North America, a business unit of Germany-based Heidelberg Materials, acquired GRR and its four waste-to-energy facilities as part of its acquisition of Harleyville, South Carolina-based Giant Cement Holding Inc., announced late last year.
GRR accepts hazardous and nonhazardous waste materials, including liquids, solids such as construction and demolition debris, plus steel drums, containers and aerosol cans, and converts them into fuel for cement kilns, according to Heidelberg.
The addition of the GRR business to the Heidelberg Materials brand “perfectly complements” Heidelberg’s focus on growing the circular economy and increasing its portfolio of more sustainable construction materials, according to the firm.
“The GRR team is excited to be a part of Heidelberg Materials and proud to be a part of a company with such a strong and compelling focus on environmental sustainability and innovation,” GRR Executive Vice President Stephen Holt says.
On the Heidelberg GRR website, the company lists facility locations in Atalla, Alabama; Logansport, Indiana; Harleyville, South Carolina; and Sumter, South Carolina.
“The GRR business is very unique and a strategically important addition to Heidelberg Materials North America," says Scott Dickson, president of Heidelberg Materials North America’s Southeast Region. "This rebranding of the GRR business further emphasizes our commitment to building a sustainable future and positioning Heidelberg Materials as the front runner on decarbonizing the built environment and growing the circular economy in the construction materials industry.”
