JunkStart, a San Antonio-based junk hauling provider, has announced expansion plans to capitalize on its pay-by-weight pricing strategy.

The company says its looking to recruit a network of up to 125 franchisees who are committed to the brand’s goal of becoming the franchise industry’s leading waste management provider.

“Like many other junk hauling providers, we originally priced our waste removal services by volume,” JunkStart Franchising founder and CEO Daniel McCarty. “But we decided if landfills can be profitable charging by weight, so can we. We’re putting a halt to ‘guestimate’ pricing and creating a different way to do business in a junk hauling industry that’s primed and ready for market disruption.”

JunkStart was originally founded in 2022 and began franchising its concept this summer. The brand says it looks to position itself as an upstart pioneer in the industry.

JunkStart generates more than 50 percent of its revenue in the business-to-business (B2B) channel, according to the company.

Among the company's investment terms are:

  • Initial franchise fee: $65,000 to $97,500.

  • Liquid capital required: $200,000.

  • Initial training fee: $10,000.

  • Total startup costs: $222,500 to $394,000.

  • Royalty: Eight percent of gross sales per month.

JunkStart’s transport trucks come with larger beds that feature a patent-pending weighing system—the cornerstone of the brand’s pay-by-weight proposition.
