Farley, Iowa-based Kluesner Sanitation will work together with the city of Independence, Iowa, to manage a recycling drop-off depot designed to be open to residents 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
A notice from the city of Independence indicates the new drop-off facility started operating Monday.
Officials say the new depot represents a major step forward in the city’s sustainability efforts, in part because the facility will accept glass for recycling, a service it says long has been requested by residents. A designated dumpster container has been placed to accept glass bottles and jars.
“This is a fantastic development for our community,” Independence City Manager Matthew R. Schmitz says. “Our partnership with Kluesner Sanitation allows us to provide a more robust, single-location recycling solution while finally adding glass to our list of accepted materials. This new center will be more convenient for residents and will significantly increase our community's ability to divert waste from the landfill.”
To centralize operations, cardboard and old corrugated containers drop-off bins at a different location in the city were removed Monday.
“Residents are reminded to recycle only acceptable materials in the designated receptacles,” the city of Independence states in its announcement.
