The Topturn X4500 compost turner from Komptech, with U.S. offices in Westminster, Colorado, has recently been awarded the Red Dot Award for product design.
Design Zentrum NRW, a design institution led by Dr. Peter Zec, is behind the Red Dot Award. The award assesses the diversity in the field of design and breaks down into three disciplines: product design, communication design and design concept.
Komptech introduced the Topturn X4500 in late 2016. The company calls it the smallest compost turner in their product line. Komptech built the Topturn X4500 with the same design and qualities of their larger models.
“Its concisely formed, sturdy frame gives the Topturn X4500 an autonomous appearance; it also impresses with extremely functional detail solutions, for example, the retractable cabin,” a statement by Red Dot says.
The new Topturn X4500 can be used for small and medium-sized composting operations. Its frame, coupled with a new design, high performance hydraulics and generously dimensioned drum mean high throughput in all scenarios, Komptech says. The X4500 also comes in a 275 horsepower (hp) version. Komptech says both engines meet the latest exhaust requirements and the cooling systems keep them running smoothly even under full load and high ambient temperatures. The hydraulically extendable maintenance platforms and reversible wear plates are designed for easy maintenance and low wear costs.
