Lakeshore Recycling Systems lands contract with Illinois city

Wheaton, Illinois, awards five-year residential waste and recycling contract to company.

The Chicago-area recycling company Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS) has been awarded a five-year residential waste and recycling contract with the city of Wheaton, Illinois, effective Oct. 1, 2016.

"We are honored and grateful to win the city of Wheaton's residential waste and recycling contract and look forward to serving the disposal needs of Wheaton residents this fall," says LRS Managing Partner Joshua Connell. "This important contract win expands our presence into DuPage County and mirrors the demand and growth we've experienced in Chicago's vibrant collar counties over the past year."

According to LRS, its use of permanent radio-frequency identification- (RFID-) enabled tags on bins to improve service delivery accuracy was a compelling driver behind the city's selection of LRS. The company says it first introduced RFID-enabled bins earlier this year in cities in the Chicagoland area.

With RFID technology, LRS says it can track pickups by customer accounts, ensuring accuracy in billing the city’s 14,000 residential households. When carts are emptied, LRS’ trucks and carts wirelessly communicate to properly bill residents. Further, the cost of disposal for large and small households is expected to decrease under the LRS RFID-enabled program.

Alan Handley, LRS CEO, says, "From our use of innovative technology to an unyielding commitment to environmental sustainability, LRS is proud to divert more waste from landfills than any other waste solutions provider in the Chicago area. We welcome Wheaton residents to the LRS service family and look forward to effectively and efficiently serving their waste and recycling needs."

The contract with Wheaton includes an organic composting option, providing residents the opportunity to combine their food and landscape material.
