Lorain, Ohio, City Council has approved a citywide switch to using automated garbage collection, according to a report in The Morning Journal. The system, which includes distribution of carts to 21,000 residents, is not expected to be fully implemented until spring.
The city’s waste hauler, Republic Services, Phoenix, already has begun automated collection in other parts of Lorain County, Ohio. The initial approval for the city came in September 2016, but no official start date was set for the cart system.
Dave Kidder, municipal services manager, told The Morning Journal automated collection will begin in mid-March or April.
He also said residents would be receiving information in the mail providing more details on the automated system. Approximately five trucks per day will service the community with garbage and recycling collection in the new automated system.
