Man arrested after allegedly threatening Waste Management facility

The 32-year-old man is suspected of making online threats to employees of the Phoenix facility.

Police arrested a 32-year-old man accused of threatening to commit a shooting at a Waste Management (WM) facility in Phoenix, a report by 3 TV/CBS 5 says. Jarrell Stephens is facing charges of creating a hoax, threats, computer tampering and harassment. He was taken into custody July 13, 2017.

Allegedly, Stephens was previously employed by Houston-based WM and was fired.

Police responded to the facility March 7, 2017, to investigate reports of threats made against the facility through a Craigslist account. The report says the Craigslist posting threatened a mass shooting at the WM facility, which caused concern for employees and management.

July 12, the Craigslist account posted another threat that included a list of employee names, the report says.

An emergency call reporting shots fired at the facility was made the same day as the second posting but no evidence of a shooting was found.

July 13, Stephens was identified by police and arrested without incident. His bond is set at $10,000.

WM has since updated its security protocols at the facility.
