A new $2.2 million building is nearly ready to open for business at the Blue Earth County Landfill near Mankato, Minnesota.
According to an online report by the Mankato Free Press, the building will allow residents in light vehicles who are taking trash to the landfill to deposit it there rather than sharing gravel roads with larger dump and compactor trucks.
The new structure, which is expected to be complete by late spring or early summer 2016, also will include a drive-up window where landfill customers can pay their fees.
According to the Free Press report, county officials say the building is being constructed with adequate capacity to add recycling and reuse areas if and as residents request such services.
The Blue Earth County Landfill also is expanding, and “will start excavation on two new cells [in fall 2016], with work on the liners set for next spring,” according to the Free Press.
