Martin County is first Florida municipality to commit biosolids to Indiantown upcycling facility

Synagro Technologies Inc., a Baltimore-based provider of sustainable solutions for biosolids, organics and residuals, and Sedron, a waste upcycling solutions company headquartered in Mount Vernon, Washington, have announced that Martin County is the first Florida municipality to commit biosolids to their Indiantown upcycling facility.

The Martin County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved a 10-year contract with Synagro Jan. 6, 2026. In February, Synagro and Sedron announced a strategic partnership. Under the terms of the agreement, Synagro will supply biosolids from its Florida customers to Sedron’s upcycling facility for advanced drying.

Using Sedron’s patented Varcor system, the facility will process industrial volumes of liquid waste, including septage, biosolids and liquid manure. Construction of the facility is expected to begin in 2026, with operations set to commence in 2028.

“Martin County’s commitment underscores the trust in our collaborative approach to biosolids management,” Pam Racey, chief commercial officer of Synagro, says. “The Indiantown upcycling facility will provide operational certainty and environmental performance, paving the way for more municipalities to join this innovative initiative.”

By partnering with Synagro, Martin County will gain access to Sedron’s technology to transform waste into resources, including carbon negative electricity, without requiring capital investment from the municipality.
