Maudlin, South Carolina, set to save money

Under the new agreement, Maudlin’s recyclables will be dropped at a facility at West Washington Street  in Greenville at no charge. When the market values of the recyclables rise above $100 per ton, Maudlin will receive a rebate of $5 per ton, the newspaper says.

 

“There is no negative financial impact whatsoever, only positive,” Maudlin Mayor Dennis Raines told The Greenville News. 

 

The agreement is seen as an improvement over Maudlin’s previous partnership with Pratt Industries, Livonia, Michigan,  which charged $15 per ton for recyclables and which obligated Maudlin to drive its recyclables Pratts’ Duncan, South Carolina facility.

 

“Not only is the alternative less costly to our citizens, the Washington Street facility is approximately 10 miles closer than where we are currently dropping our recyclable materials,” Maudlin City Administrator Trey Eubanks told the newspaper. “You eliminate traversing I-85, so you’ll be saving time, wear and tear on your vehicles and fuel costs.”

 

The recycling program begins July 1.
