The National Association of Counties (NACo), Washington, has recognized Florida’s Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) with a 2016 Achievement Award for its Recycle This, Not That educational campaign. This marks the sixth consecutive year that Miami-Dade’s solid waste operations have been recognized by NACo.
The National Association of Counties’ annual Achievement Award Program is a noncompetitive awards program that recognizes innovative county government programs.
“The NACo Achievement Awards we have received this year and previous years are a great testimony to the creativity, innovation and hard work of our department’s employees,” says Alina T. Hudak, deputy mayor and department director for DSWM.
The Recycle This, Not That educational campaign was created with the county’s communications department to help reduce the amount of unacceptable items in the recycling program. Two of the videos in the campaign can be viewed online: Recycle This, Not That! – Paper vs. Plastic Bags and Recycle This, Not That! – Milk Carton vs. Foam Container.
The DSWM provides curbside recycling services to residents in the unincorporated areas of Miami-Dade County and following 19 municipalities: Aventura, Cutler Bay, Doral, El Portal, Florida City, Medley, Miami Beach, Miami Gardens, Miami Lakes, Miami Springs, North Bay Village, Opa-locka, Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest, South Miami, Sunny Isles Beach, Surfside, Virginia Gardens and West Miami.
