North Carolina cities and county debut collection reminder software

Residents of Cabarrus County, Concord and Kannapolis can access new tools for collection, such as a calendar and Waste Wizard.

Cabarrus County, Concord and Kannapolis, North Carolina, have partnered to make waste management services and programs more accessible to residents.

As of July 1, residents in Concord, Kannapolis and the unincorporated areas of Cabarrus County have access to a new waste collection calendar and reminder system. The same platform includes a Waste Wizard, which provides information on how materials can be reused, recycled, composted or disposed of within their community. There are two ways to access the waste collection system.

Residents can visit the websites for Concord, Kannapolis and Cabarrus County from any device or web browser to access the entire suite of new tools including:

  • a real-time collection calendar linked to a home address;
  • registration for waste collection reminders delivered by email, phone call and text message;
  • collection schedule integration with iCal, Google calendar or Microsoft Outlook calendar formats; and
  • printable collection schedules.

Residents can also download the new mobile app, CabConKan CARTology, for Apple or Android devices. From the app, residents can learn how to dispose of items, view their collection calendar and receive notifications.

"We are proud to partner with our friends in Kannapolis and Cabarrus County to make these tools available to the greater community," Concord Mayor Bill Dusch says. "This is one more example of how we can work together to improve services."

In addition to regular waste pick up, all county residents are encouraged to dispose of household hazardous waste, including paint, pesticides, brake fluid, gas and other chemicals, at the county's Household Hazardous Waste facility in Concord. The county also manages a construction and demolition landfill in Concord. The CARTology website and app include a full listing of accepted products, hours and collection schedules for both locations.

"Our residents in Kannapolis, as well as our neighbors in Concord and the county, are already doing a great job reusing, composting, recycling and otherwise diverting waste from the landfill," Kannapolis Mayor Darrell Hinnant says. "This will now make it even easier to learn about solid waste management in our community with our new online tools and mobile app."
