The Arlington, Virginia-based National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) says it is pleased the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee (EPW) voted out of committee The Recycling Infrastructure and Accessibility Act of 2023 and The Recycling and Composting Accountability Act.
NWRA describes the acts as “bipartisan legislation that would improve rural recycling accessibility and recycling/composting data collection.” The bills, which were pushed forward by the committee April 26, will now move to the Senate floor for a vote.
“We thank EPW Chairman Tom Carper (D-Del.) and Ranking Member Shelly Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) for advancing this bipartisan legislation so swiftly,” NWRA President and CEO Darrell Smith says. “These bills are integral to advancing America’s domestic recycling infrastructure and capabilities. We urge the Senate to pass these bills rapidly as they did during the last Congress.”
Last year, the Senate passed these bills under unanimous consent.
NWRA says it is working with congressional staff to introduce the bills in the House. The association says it has been working with congressional leaders and their staffs on the bills prior to their original introduction in 2022, and that it continues to hold Capitol Hill meetings on the bills.
