NWRA, WM execs make effective lobbyists list

Jim Riley, interim president and CEO of the Arlington, Virginia-based National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA), has been selected by The Hill as a top lobbyist of 2023. Also making the list is Ibn Salaam, director of federal legislative affairs for Houston-based WM.

The list includes staff members of about 125 trade associations and nearly 130 corporations, and the 2023 list marks the fifth-straight year Riley has been recognized by The Hill.

“I appreciate being named to this list once again,” Riley says. “Our industry historically has been overlooked by lawmakers and regulators, something that I have worked hard to change. We do important work, which requires us to be strong advocates for our industry.

“Ibn’s recognition by The Hill is well-deserved, and we are thankful for his efforts on behalf of the industry," he adds of Salaam's inclusion on the list.

Regarding its list, The Hill says, “The federal lobbying bench is deep, with more than 12,500 actively lobbying so far in 2023, and not everyone on this list is a registered lobbyist. These impactful advocates stand out for the results they’ve delivered for their clients, companies, trade associations and advocacy groups in the nation’s capital.”
