New York DEC accepts online grant applications

Applications to be accepted for recycling education, coordination, promotion and planning Aug. 1-Oct. 31.

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is making funds available for new grants to assist local governments in paying for recycling education, coordination, promotion and planning (RECPP).

DEC will accept applications only during the months of August, September and October 2018 for projects to be completed during in 2019. During the application period, applicants can initiate a proposal in the New York State Grants Gateway, by going to the Grant Opportunity Portal.

RECPP funding will reimburse up to 50 percent of eligible "soft costs" of recycling and waste prevention. Eligible projects include costs of salary for a municipal recycling coordinator, publications, education and outreach tools, recycling advertising, recycling websites and promotional items. Approximately $3 million will be made available for these grants.

The New York DEC administers funding from the state’s Environmental Protection Fund to support municipal waste reduction and recycling (MWRR) efforts in New York state.

Applications received by DEC during the three-month application period will be reviewed, scored and, if acceptable, will be approved for grants during the final two months of 2018.
