Opa-locka, Florida, recycling facility keeps residents awake

According to Miami-based NBC 6, residents of Opa-locka, Florida, have filed multiple complaints against a local recycling facility, Trademark Metals Recycling, for loud noises during nightly operations.

“We have parents with their kids waking up in the middle of the night with nightmares because it’s three cranes at the same time just crushing metal over and over,” resident Ibet Lopez says in the article. “I want them to follow city codes and work from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and let the residents sleep.”

Police responded multiple times to calls from residents. The facility has been fined for violating two ordinances, the article says. 

“They have complained about not being able to sleep at night and a lot of loud noise, and the code enforcement and my office have confirmed exactly what the residents reported,” Police Chief James Dobson told NBC 6.

The city says it plans to meet with center management in late August 2016.
