Delmont, Pennsylvania, borough council recently awarded a four-year hauling and recycling contract to Phoenix-based Republic Services, allowing residents to place their recycled materials at the curb, a report by the Tribune Review says. The contract is scheduled to be in effect by September.
The report says the new contract will cost residents $53 per quarter, with senior citizens paying $48 per quarter and per bag users paying $3.50. Republic will honor per-bag tags from other haulers up to 60 days once it takes over.
The contract includes biweekly recycling, hazardous and bulky waste pickup and five leaf collections per year. In the second and third years of the contract, the report says rates will raise by 2 to 3 percent. A 10 percent jump is expected in the fourth year.
The contract is scheduled to expire at the same time Murrysville and Export’s dual contract expires with the goal to partner with the municipalities on a new contract. According to the report, the fourth year’s rate jump will be balanced out once Delmont bids on a new contract with Murrysville and Export.
