Plastics For Change receives ocean plastics certification

Karnataka, India-based Plastics For Change says it is now an Ocean Bound Plastic (OBP) certified plastic scrap collector, adding the certification “provides a layer of standardization and assurance of the quality and nature of the plastic sourced, as well as the sourcing process.”

Plastics For Change refers to itself as one of the first companies in the world to be certified by OBP. Introduced in 2020 by France-based Zero Plastics Ocean in collaboration with Netherlands-based Control Union Certifications, the program is designed to certify companies “that can guarantee that their products truly are, or originate from, OBP and adhere to fair trade guidelines.”

The enterprise says it was certified as an OBP collection organization “after an intensive audit process.” Plastics for Change says its platform connects informal scrap collectors to global markets and international brands as part of its mission “to use plastic waste as a resource to create better livelihoods for marginalized waste collectors while contributing toward cleaner oceans.”

Adds Plastics For Change, “This certification reiterates the commitment of the organization, which was also the first plastic recycler to be verified by the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO).”
