The Phoenix-based waste management firm Republic Services, along with Aria Energy, Novi, Michigan, held an open house on April 23, 2015, to celebrate the opening of Republic’s new landfill gas-to-energy (LFGTE) project at the County Line landfill in Indiana. The 6-megawatt project began operations in late 2014 and is capable of generating enough renewable energy to power more than 3,200 homes in the Indiana counties of Fulton and Marshall.
Republic Services partnered with Aria Energy, which has developed or constructed more than 50 project, to build the LFGTE project. The two companies already have partnered on four projects with a combined generation capacity of more than 39.6 megawatts of electrical power to date. Additionally, Republic Services and Aria Energy are currently working on two additional projects, which combined are expected to create another 15 megawatts of electrical power.
Republic Services, headquartered in Phoenix, has implemented 73 landfill gas-to-energy projects nationwide.
