Ohio EPA to hold meeting to discuss landfill expansion

If approved, life of Rumpke landfill in northern Ohio will be extended by more than 20 years.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will hold a public information meeting on Feb. 14, 2019, to discuss the draft permit for the proposed expansion of the Noble Road Landfill in Greenwich, Ohio, operated by Rumpke of Northern Ohio. If the expansion permit is approved, the landfill in Richland County would be extended by around 24 years.

The expansion includes both a lateral and vertical expansion. The proposal would expand the landfill by close to 85 acres, or about 18 million cubic yards of space.

Currently, the landfill receives about 3,600 tons of waste per day and is permitted to accept up to 6,000 tons per day.

The meeting will take place on Feb. 14 at 6:00 p.m. at the Greenwich Council Chambers on Main Street in Greenwich.
