R.World, a Minneapolis-based reverse logistics and sanitizing solutions company, has announced its diversion of 20 million single-use cups and foodware from landfills.

First launched in 2017, r.World has serviced thousands of locations across the U.S., including more than 35 states, over 150 cities and 12 countries. The company partners with sports and entertainment leaders, event venues and campuses such as Crypto.com Arena, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Live Nation, Aramark and more to provide reverse logistics and sanitizing solutions at local “wash hubs.”

Since its launch, r.World says it has:

  • diverted 20 million single-use cups and foodware from landfills;
  • prevented over 110 tons of plastic from ever being produced;
  • eliminated 440 U.S. tons of CO2 emissions;
  • saved 1.65 million kilowatt-hours of energy; and
  • conserved 5 million gallons of water.

When stacked end-to-end, these 20 million items would stretch over 1,700 miles — the distance from Las Vegas to Chicago.

“Eliminating 20 million single-use items is irrefutable proof reuse at scale is achievable, profitable and impactful,” r.World Founder and CEO Michael Martin says. “This milestone validates our belief that a better way to tackle waste is possible: one that's environmentally responsible and economically viable.”
