Carmel, Indiana-based Sagepoint Energy LLC has closed on the acquisition of Peoples LFG LLC, which currently operates as a landfill gas-to-electricity plant in Birch Run, Michigan.
Sagepoint says the acquisition aims to strengthen its position in the landfill renewable natural gas (RNG) market and further scale and diversify its portfolio.
Peoples LFG was acquired from North American Power Systems LLC and has been in operation for more than 20 years. The facility has a generating capacity of 4.8 megawatts.
“The acquisition of Peoples is a strategic advancement in expanding and strengthening our RNG portfolio,” Sagepoint CEO Aaron Johnson says. “By converting this landfill gas-to-electricity plant into an RNG facility, we are enhancing our operational capabilities and driving increased renewable natural gas production.”

Sagepoint plans to invest in the development and construction of a landfill gas-to-RNG facility over the next year, with construction set to commence in 2025. Commercial operations are anticipated to begin in 2026.
“We are excited to partner with Sagepoint Energy on this project,” North American Power Systems CEO Brian Evans says. “This collaboration allows us to participate in the growing renewable natural gas market and contribute to a more sustainable future.”
In March, Sagepoint acquired Lynx Renewable Energy Kansas and Renewable Power Producers, two RNG operations using landfill gas as feedstock.
