The Sallisaw Municipal Authority (SMA) in Oklahoma has reportedly approved a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the authority and Sparq Natural Gas LLC that calls for a 150-day period to perform additional development of the Sparq Renewables Sallisaw Project Plan, which is related to a landfill biomethane project at the city’s municipal landfill.
According to an online news report from the Sallisaw-based Sequoyah County Times, Sparq approached the SMA with a proposal to harvest biomethane from the municipal landfill.
During the 150-day period, Sparq will make final determination whether the Sallisaw Landfill is an appropriate location of a biomethane project. The company has already performed some preliminary testing at the landfill, which Sparq says came back positive, and has created preliminary designs of a harvesting station.
The memorandum of understanding will allow Sparq to continue to the next phase, which allows for a 150-day period to further develop the project.
