San Diego County’s Solid Waste Planning and Recycling division announced on Aug. 21 that the municipality has launched a Recycle Right campaign to educate residents on proper recycling behaviors.
The Recycle Right campaign will incorporate two easy-to-understand messages via newspaper, radio and social media campaigns. The first will pertain to informing residents what can go in the bin: paper, cardboard and cartons, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles and containers, and metal/aluminum containers and foil.
The second phase of the messaging is aimed at instilling the phrase, “Empty, dry, loose,” into residents’ consciousness. This means that all recyclables should be emptied, wiped out and placed directly into the recycling bin—not in plastic bags first.
Items like food, liquids, plastic bags, ropes, clothing, batteries and other items should be excluded from the city’s recycling bins.
