SCS adds a staff member, promotes another

California-based firm names Vidhya Viswanathan as its new Southwest director of engineering and adds Maura Dougherty as a senior project manager.

Long Beach California-based SCS Engineers has announced the promotion of Vidhya Viswanathan to the Southwest region’s director of engineering. The firm also says Maura Dougherty is joining the SCS Southwest business unit as a senior project manager.

In her new role, Viswanathan will lead the company’s solid waste engineering operations in California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah and New Mexico. “Vidhya spent the last five years broadening her client base in the Southwest and expanding her expertise from solid waste and environmental engineering to include renewable energy, recycling and organics management,” says Pat Sullivan, SCS senior vice president and director of the Southwest business unit. “In addition to leading engineering operations in the Southwest, Vidhya leads our strategic initiative on composting systems and facilities, which help our clients meet climate goals.”

Viswanathan is active in solid waste and renewables industry associations and has won awards for her projects and plaudits as a rising young professional, says SCS.

“We’re continuing to develop our cross-disciplinary teams across the firm because they promote value-engineering, increase operational efficiency, and inculcate safety while meeting regulatory compliance goals,” says Viswanathan. “We are serving our clients better while supporting their goals with practical, cost-effective, and compliant waste management and diversion systems and programs.”

SCS describes Viswanathan as a registered civil engineer with years of experience working with large municipalities and private waste management firms. Her experience in permitting, designing and constructing landfills includes cell expansion, liner installation and landfill gas collection and control systems.

Her focus on helping SCS clients comply with solid waste regulations, and finding opportunities to design, build and operate systems that reduce their environmental footprint, recycle more and produce renewable energy are winning awards and gaining industry recognition, adds the firm.

SCS says Dougherty will lead solid waste management engineering design, operations support and construction quality assurance projects, integrating programs such as prevention, recycling, composting and disposal with landfill systems and technologies. Dougherty will report to Viswanathan from the SCS office in Pleasanton, California.

“Maura is a senior professional with proven success in solid waste engineering, construction, and construction quality assurance solutions,” says Viswanathan. “Her experience managing landfill and landfill gas collection and control system engineering and construction projects strengthen our efforts to support our clients.”

Dougherty is a registered professional engineer in California, Oregon, Washington and Hawaii with more than 20 years of experience overseeing landfill engineering and construction projects, coordinating with regulatory staff, conducting design and technical reviews and supporting construction work.

“Maura is active and well-known in the solid waste and recycling industry,” adds Viswanathan. “We are eager to get her involved in our existing projects and continue building our successful portfolio of work.”
