Officials in Shaftsbury, Vermont are considering what to do with one of the town’s transfer stations that is located where a new highway department garage is being built, the Bennington Banner reports.
Shaftsbury Town Administrator David Kiernan acknowledges that the transfer station may have to have some of its functions taken offsite, while other functions may need to be suspended entirely during the construction process.
“We can just suspend (taking construction and demolition debris) and have a compactor and a dumpster back here for recyclables, if we want," Kiernan says. "So, we're going to explore that. Because, as we narrow this down with contractors, it might be better to move the whole thing offsite.”
The bid process for contractors has just begun for the construction project and will remain open until March. Kiernan says that he will consult with Town Treasurer Melanie Dexter and the city’s board about the status of the transfer station when they’ve gathered more information on the project.
